There have been thousands of claims regarding the healing power of CBD. If only a handful of those claims are proven true, CBD may go down in history as one of the greatest medicinal plants in history.
Adding to its growing number of claims, researchers at the University of Queensland’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience’s Center for Superbug Solutions, discovered that cannabidiol is incredibly effective at killing a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria. This is to include many bacteria that have become resistant to antibiotics over the years. But it gets even better. Those same researchers found that cannabidiol is active against the types of bacteria that are often responsible for many serious infections, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, while maintaining a potency similar to that of established antibiotics.
Lead researcher, Mark Blaskovich, Ph.D., stated that “given cannabidiol’s documented anti-inflammatory effects, existing safety data in humans, and potential for varied delivery routes, it is a promising new antibiotic worth further investigation. The combination of inherent antimicrobial activity and the potential to reduce damage caused by the inflammatory response to infections is particularly attractive.”
It’s important to note that throughout these tests, the drug retained its activity against bacteria that have become highly resistant to other common antibiotics. Under extended exposure conditions that lead to common antibiotics, vancomycin, and daptomycin, to become resistant; whereas, the cannabidiol did not lose its effectiveness.
